‘Knowing-that’ vs. ‘Knowing-wh’

چکیده
Though there is a huge amount of the so-called epistemic logics that deal with propositional attitudes, i.e., sentences form “a knows P”, their ‘wh-cousins’ who what P is”, which Ps are Qs”, etc., have been, to best my knowledge, almost neglected. A similar disproportion can be observed between analysis Yes-No questions, has been under scrutiny many erotetic logics, and Wh-questions dealt just by few authors. To fill this gap, we analysed in Transparent Intensional Logic (TIL) adjusted Gentzen’s system natural deduction TIL language processing; thus, our question-answering answer not only questions but also derive answers Wh-questions. In paper, I am going apply these results containing ‘knowing-wh’ constituent. addition, will analyse relation ‘knowing-that’ ‘knowing-wh’. For instance, if Mayor Ostrava Mr Macura, logically Ostrava? Or, vice versa, do assumptions entail Macura? case rational human agents seem no-doubt YES, perhaps rather surprising general negative. We specify rules for deriving knowing-that knowing-wh, software agent resource bounded, it does its ontology necessary answer. The goal paper specification rules. Hence, when applying into design multi-agent composed resource-bounded agents, compute inferable accounts explicit knowledge inferential abilities.

Knowing How vs . Knowing That
More than forty years after Gilbert Ryle published his paper on "Knowing How and Knowing That" in 1945, 1 the problem of practical knowledge has still failed to establish for itself a secure position in the field of problems dealt with by analytic philosophers. Thus even today it can safely be asserted that it is discursive or theoretical knowledge, knowledge linguistically expressed, above all...
متن کامل``Knowing Whether,'' ``Knowing That,'' and The Cardinality of State Spaces
We introduce a new knowledge operator called ``knowing whether.'' Knowing whether an event occurred means either knowing that it occurred or knowing that it did not occur. We demonstrate the following difference between ``knowing whether'' and ``knowing that.'' In a multiple agent model, a sequence of events generated by successively applying ``knowing that'' operators, or their negations, may ...
متن کاملKnowing how and knowing that : a tale of two ontologies
Outdoor education has traditionally dealt with sources of knowledge that originate within the experience itself. This situated source exists in tension with more traditional modes of institutionalized learning which emphasize knowledge as an objectified curriculum content. Two types of knowing emerge: one reflected in a more practical knowing how, the other in a more theoretical knowing that. T...
متن کاملKnowing-‘wh’, Mention-Some Readings, and Non-Reducibility
This paper presents a new criticism of reductive approaches to knowledge-‘wh’ (i.e., those approaches on which whether one stands in the knowledge-‘wh’ relation to a question is determined by whether one stands in the knowledge-‘that’ relation to some answer(s) to the question). It argues in particular that the truth of a knowledge-‘wh’ attribution like ‘Janna knows where she can buy an Italian...
متن کاملKnowing That I Am Thinking
Soc. ...I speak of what I scarcely understand; but the soul when thinking appears to me to be just talking—asking questions of herself and answering them, affirming and denying. And when she has arrived at a decision, either gradually or by a sudden impulse, and has at last agreed, and does not doubt, this is called her opinion. I say, then, that to form an opinion is to speak, and opinion is a...
